Former SIS chief Suresh Sallay still refusing food and water

The hospitalised former head of the State Intelligence Service, Suresh Sallay, is still not taking food or water. His wife, Manori Sallay, stated this while responding to questions from journalists yesterday (08) upon leaving the Colombo National Hospital after visiting him to check on his well-being.

The former head of the State Intelligence Service, retired Major General Suresh Sallay, who is in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department regarding an investigation into the Easter Sunday terror attack, commenced a fast unto death since the night of the 5th against the torture inflicted upon him. Subsequently, considering his health condition, he was admitted to the Emergency Treatment Unit of the Colombo National Hospital the night before yesterday.

Suresh Sallay, who is currently receiving treatment in ward 42, received permission to meet his lawyers yesterday following a request made by his wife to the Criminal Investigation Department. Accordingly, she arrived at the Colombo National Hospital with the lawyers to meet Suresh Sallay. Meanwhile, a team of officials from the Human Rights Commission arrived at the National Hospital yesterday and recorded statements from him regarding the inhumane and degrading treatment alleged to have occurred to Suresh Sallay.
