The Colombo High Court ruled that former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardana is guilty of corruption charges.
The order was delivered by Colombo High Court Judge Mohamed Mihail while announcing the verdict in cases filed against Gunawardana by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
Accordingly, sentencing is expected to be imposed on the defendant, while lawyers are currently presenting submissions related to the punishment.
The case was filed by the CIABOC against Sarana Gunawardana over allegations that, while serving as Chairman of the Development Lotteries Board in 2006, he committed an act of corruption by causing a financial loss to the state during the procurement of vehicles for the institution on a rental basis.
