The Colombo High Court has sentenced Sarana Gunawardena to four years of rigorous imprisonment after being found guilty in a corruption case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
In addition to the prison term, the court also imposed a fine of Rs. 600,000.
The case was filed against Gunawardena over allegations that he committed the offence of “corruption” by causing a financial loss to the government while serving as Chairman of the Development Lotteries Board in 2006, specifically in relation to leasing vehicles for the institution.
