The Police Headquarters says that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a key suspect involved in the abduction and disappearance of a retired Sri Lanka Army soldier who had been residing in Narangaspitiya, Kirindiwela.
The arrest was made yesterday (08) in Ranthpokunagama, Nittambuwa.
According to the Police, the incident dates back to September 9, 2018, when the retired soldier was abducted and went missing in the Narangaspitiya area of Kirindiwela. Following a complaint received by the Inspector General of Police, a lengthy investigation was launched by the CID’s Homicide and Organised Crime Investigation Division.
As a result of a special operation, the suspect—who was wanted in connection with the crime—was taken into custody in the Nittambuwa Police Division.
The arrested suspect is a 47-year-old resident of Ranthpokunagama, Nittambuwa.
At the time of arrest, police recovered a foreign-made pen-shaped small firearm along with five rounds of ammunition.
In addition, four T-56 rounds, eight 9mm rounds, and two 12-gauge shotgun cartridges were also found in his possession and taken into police custody.
Further investigations are being carried out by the CID’s Homicide and Organised Crime Investigation Division.
