The Department of Meteorology has warned that wind speeds in the sea areas extending from Kankesanthurai to Kalpitiya via Mannar may intermittently increase to 60–70 km/h, while sea conditions in these areas are expected to become very rough at times.
Accordingly, the department has advised the naval and fishing communities to refrain from venturing into these sea areas until further notice.
The department further stated that wind speeds in the sea areas extending from Trincomalee to Kankesanthurai via Mullaitivu, and from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota, may also increase intermittently to 50–60 km/h, with rough sea conditions expected at times.
In addition, wave heights in the offshore sea areas from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota could rise to approximately 2.0 to 2.5 metres, the department added.
