Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera, who was arrested by police at the Lenagala Aranya Senasanaya in Ihala Herassa, Pitigala, was brought to the Colombo Crimes Division last night (03).
He was arrested pursuant to a warrant issued to produce him before court.
The Court of Appeal issued an open warrant on October 1 directing the arrest and production in court of the General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena organisation, Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera, who was sentenced to imprisonment for contempt of court.
In addition, the Court of Appeal imposed a travel ban on Gnanasara Thera, preventing him from travelling overseas.
This follows a recent Supreme Court decision that invalidated the presidential pardon granted to the General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena organisation, Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera, by former President Maithripala Sirisena over his contempt of court conviction.
