A meeting between President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Kuwait Prime Minister Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah was held on 19 September in Manhattan, New York, while the President was attending the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Recalling the 50 years of close and friendly diplomatic relations between the two countries, the two leaders emphasized the need to further strengthen the bilateral ties.

The President pointed out that many Sri Lankans work in Kuwait and called for further opportunities for skilled workers.

President Rajapaksa also pointed out the control of the COVID pandemic and the vaccination program being carried out in the country. He noted the possibility of strengthening bilateral relations with the end of the pandemic and the opening up of the world.

The President also drew the attention of the Kuwaiti Prime Minister to the investment opportunities available to the State of Kuwait in the port city, solar and wind energy and refining sectors.

Heads of state also discussed food security, education, information technology and cybersecurity.
