In a move to modernize and streamline the registration process for three-wheeler drivers, the Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, Manusha Nanayakkara, has announced the imminent introduction of a new QR code system. This development comes in response to a proposal advocating for the incorporation of QR codes and the establishment of a comprehensive data system for three-wheeler drivers.

Minister Nanayakkara shared these plans at the launch event for the Interim Sectoral Steering Committee, marking the initial phase of setting up professional councils dedicated to three-wheeler drivers.

The envisioned QR code system aims to enhance the efficiency of the registration process, providing a modern and secure means of managing data for all three-wheeler drivers. Additionally, discussions are underway to create a system enabling drivers to secure hired journeys through the internet, facilitated by the professional organization dedicated to their welfare.

The Interim Sectoral Steering Committee, formed under the "Garu Saru" program, seeks to elevate the professional dignity and pride of individuals engaged in the informal services sector in Sri Lanka. Chaired by Minister Nanayakkara, the committee includes representatives from various three-wheeler drivers' associations across the country.

During the event, the committee presented a resolution outlining key agreements from previous discussions, further emphasizing the commitment to advancing the professional standards and well-being of three-wheeler drivers in Sri Lanka.
