The Executive Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has unanimously elected Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva as the party’s Chairman and Duminda Dissanayake as the SLFP General Secretary.

Minister of Ports, Aviation, and Shipping, Nimal Siripala de Silva, had been previously appointed as the SLFP Acting Chairman by the party faction supporting him. This decision was taken during the SLFP politburo meeting led by former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, held on April 8 at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.

In a related development, MP Duminda Dissanayake was appointed as the SLFP’s Acting General Secretary during another politburo meeting on April 25.

The Colombo District Court has refused to grant an interim order to prevent the SLFP Executive Committee, chaired by Acting Chairman Nimal Siripala de Silva, from holding the meeting this afternoon (19).

The court decided to issue notices to the defendants in the petition and scheduled the case to be called again on July 03.

This decision followed the consideration of a petition submitted by Hector Bethmage, an electoral organizer of the SLFP, who sought a court order to prevent the SLFP Executive Committee meeting from being held.
