Chris Silverwood has resigned from his position as head coach of Sri Lanka's men's team, effective immediately. Silverwood had been in the job since April 2022. SLC had extended his tenure in April until the end of the ongoing T20 World Cup.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced today that Chris Silverwood, the Head Coach of the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team, has resigned from his position due to personal reasons. Silverwood cited the need to spend more time with his family as the primary reason for his decision.

“Being an international coach means long periods away from loved ones. After lengthy conversations with my family and with a heavy heart, I feel it is now time for me to return home and spend some quality time together,” Silverwood stated.

Silverwood expressed his gratitude to the players, coaches, backroom staff, and SLC management for their support during his tenure. “Without your support, none of the success would have been possible,” he added.

Reflecting on his time with the team, Silverwood noted, “It has been a real honour for me to be part of Sri Lanka Cricket and I will be taking away many fond memories.”

Under Silverwood's leadership, the Sri Lankan team achieved significant milestones. They won the T20 Asia Cup in 2022 and reached the finals of the 50-over Asia Cup in 2023. The team also secured several notable bilateral series victories, including a home series win against Australia in the 50-over format and two away Test series wins over Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka Cricket extended its best wishes to Chris Silverwood for his future endeavors and thanked him for his valuable contributions during his tenure.
