Justice Yasantha Kodagoda, PC, has been sworn in as Acting Chief Justice before the President of Sri Lanka at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.
He will carry out the duties and responsibilities of the Chief Justice while the substantive Chief Justice, Preethi Padman Surasena, and a delegation of Supreme Court judges are overseas on official business.
ustice Kodagoda boasts a highly respected judicial career spanning over three decades.
He commenced his service in the Attorney General’s Department in 1989 and advanced through the ranks to become Additional Solicitor General.
Appointed a President’s Counsel in 2015, he previously held the position of President of the Court of Appeal before his elevation to Puisne Justice of the Supreme Court on February 03, 2020.
His appointment as Acting Chief Justice guarantees continuity in the leadership of the Judiciary and ensures the smooth operation of the Supreme Court during the Chief Justice’s absence.
