The writ petition filed by Dr Shafi Shihabdeen seeking an order to settle his salary and allowance arrears incurred when he was sent on compulsory leave following false allegations that he performed illegal sterilizations on pregnant women, was ordered to be taken up on 17 February by the Court of Appeal.

The petition was taken up before the bench of Justices Sobhitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola today.

Additional Solicitor General Sumathi Dharmawardena, who appeared for the respondents in the petition, said that he had received the petition and the relevant documents yesterday and asked for time to study them.

The court reporter stated that the petitioner did not object to this.

Accordingly, the court allowed the request and directed that it be called on the 17th to consider the petition.
