Despite this announcement, the General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union (CTU), Joseph Stalin, stated that the teacher-principal trade unions will continue their strike action tomorrow as well. The strike is a protest against the firing of tear gas and water cannons used to disperse their protest march in Colombo today.
Teacher-principal trade unions engaged in an island-wide trade union action today, June 26, by reporting sick leave, citing several demands. Concurrently, members of the trade union launched a protest in Colombo, which commenced near the Colombo Fort Railway Station.
Additionally, non-academic staff of government schools are also participating in a strike action, demanding a national policy for the non-academic service in the education sector.
