Actress Piyumi Hansamali appeared before the Illegal Assets Investigations Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) this morning (01) to record a statement regarding an investigation into the alleged suspicious acquisition of property.

Hansamali emphasized confidence in her innocence and stated that she had not done anything wrong, so there was no need to be afraid.

According to Hansamali, the legitimacy of her business comes from selling cosmetics products. She maintains her innocence and asserts that her lifestyle is a result of her hard work and legitimate earnings.

Emphasizing confidence in her innocence, Hansamali told reporters, “I have not done anything wrong, so there is no need to be afraid. We were actually summoned last week, but I only received the letter on Saturday. There are many documents that we need to get prepared.”

We have carried out all related transactions through the banking system and are documented. Bank statements are in 5 gunny bags. We did everything through the bank,” she added.

Addressing her critics, she said, “People are jealous. They are hypocritical. Can’t I buy a car after learning something and doing business? Can’t I earn and buy good cars?” Why can't I buy the Ranger Rover used by the President if it is on sale.

A complaint was filed with the Illegal Assets Investigation Division of the Police, urging an inquiry into the ownership of a Range Rover formerly used by ex-President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. The vehicle is now purportedly owned by Piumi Hansamali.

Expressing concern over potential money laundering ahead of the upcoming elections, the complaint highlighted the influx of black money into political campaigns. He raised suspicions about Hansamali's acquisition of the Range Rover (CBH 1949), once in Rajapaksa's possession, suggesting a possible link to the laundering of politicians' illicit funds.

He emphasized the stark contrast between Hansamali's current lavish lifestyle and her absence from recent television appearances. He drew comparisons with individuals in other professions, such as cosmetics sales, suggesting discrepancies in their respective lifestyles. He urged authorities to swiftly investigate the matter to ensure transparency and accountability.
