Reports indicate that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office accepted the invitation despite what it described as "unacceptable" changes Hamas wished to make to the plan presented by mediators from Qatar, the United States, and Egypt.
On Friday night, Hamas stated it had given a "positive response" to the proposal for a 60-day ceasefire and was ready for discussions.
However, Palestinians claim they requested amendments, including a guarantee that hostilities would not resume if negotiations for a permanent ceasefire fail.
