A new Medical and Surgical Professorial Unit will be established at the Kalutara Teaching Hospital tomorrow (04) to provide clinical training to medical students from the University of Moratuwa.
This unit is being set up to enhance the quality of education and clinical training for the university's medical students and to provide high-level education and training for future doctors and health professionals.
The Ministry of Health and Media has already taken steps to establish professorial units at the Kalutara Nagoda Teaching Hospital with the aim of making Kalutara a hub for health education.
Currently, the hospital has established professorial units for Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, and Psychiatry.
With the launch of the Medical and Surgical units tomorrow, the hospital will complete the setup of all five professorial units required for the clinical training of medical students.
The University of Moratuwa's Faculty of Medicine has nearly 400 students currently enrolled.
The new units were established under the direction of Minister of Health and Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, to provide essential training for approximately 100 fourth-year medical students, with training set to begin this month.
