The Colombo Additional Magistrate, Oshada Migara Mahāarachchi, today (3) ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to immediately launch an investigation and submit a report to the court regarding allegedly forged documents. These documents purportedly bear the signature and letterhead of the Commissioner General of Agrarian Services but relate to a land area that is not a paddy field.

The court issued the order after considering a complaint filed with the CID by the Commissioner General of Agrarian Services, Abeyratne, on 27 September 2022.

The CID informed the court that the complaint was made after a legal Assistant Commissioner of the Agrarian Development Department became suspicious of an application regarding a plot of land obtained through the filling and development of low-lying areas, prompting an investigation into the document’s legitimacy.

Having considered the facts presented, the Magistrate ordered the CID to conduct a full investigation into the incident and submit a progress report to the court.
