A preliminary objection raised by the defense regarding money laundering charges against Yoshitha Rajapaksa, the son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, was dismissed by the Colombo High Court today (14).

High Court Judge Udesh Ranatunga delivered the ruling, stating that the defense's claim—that the conspiracy charges could not be maintained, lacked merit.

The judge confirmed there is no legal obstacle to proceeding with the specific charges against the defendant.

Following the decision, the charge sheet was read aloud to Yoshitha Rajapaksa in open court.

Standing in the dock, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the allegations presented.

The formal trial proceedings commenced immediately after the plea.
