The Cabinet has approved a five-year national development project, aimed at ensuring the long-term wellbeing and sustainable development of families of Sri Lankan women who migrate abroad for employment.

The proposal was presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism.

The government noted that while attention has been given to the safety and education of children aged two years and above in families of women migrant workers, insufficient focus has been placed on the overall sustainable development of these households.

The new programme seeks to address this gap by promoting long-term socio-economic development and stability within migrant worker families.
