Authorities have called in Special Task Force to beef up security at the Fort Railway Station.

A tense situation has been prevailing at the station as train commuters went berserk when they found there were no trains for them to go home after work.

Several trade unions attached to Sri Lanka Railways launched a sudden strike after Cabinet has failed to implement a proposal to rectify their salary anomalies.

Accordingly, station masters, controllers, locomotive drivers, and assistant drivers had joined the strike action.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport said that train season holders can use CTB buses to reach their destinations without obtaining tickets.
