Underworld member Chryshaantha Ajith Kumaara alias Kalu Ajith was killed in a shooting at Mahwatta in Ekala in Ja-ela. 

The Police Media spokesman’s office said that  while the shooting took place close to a friend’s house last night, the victim died in the same place.

While the Minuwangoda, Polonnaruwa and Attanagalla courts had issued warrants to this underworld member resident in Pathakaduwana in Minuwangoda, he had accordingly been arrested and subsequently been released on bail.

The woman named Rasikaa Royel also got killed at Kapuwatta in Ja-ela in September last year, in a shooting aimed at Minuwangoda Kalu Ajith.

While in this connection the police arrested the person named Amunugoda Sanjeeva at Rajaanganaya, he drowned when attempting to flee with handcuffs and jumped into the Dandugam-oya as he was being escorted to the Kelaniya crimes divison. 

It had been reported that Maakilangamuwey Sanjeeva had given the contract of killing Kalu Ajith to Amunugoda Sanjeeva.

Meanwhile police said that the body recovered from a car parked on the Hokandara – Sandoris Jayantha Mawatha had no connection with any criminal incident.

However the police media spokesman’s office said that while an open verdict was given at the relevant postmortem,  the body samples were scheduled to be sent to the Government Analyst.
