The Consumer Affairs Authority has inspected four major rice mills in the Polonnaruwa area and obtained a report on the stocks of rice owned by those mills.

The Presidential Media Unit stated that the rice mills Nipuna, Temple, Lak and New Ratna were inspected yesterday.

The Commissioner-General of Essential Services, Major General M.D. S.P. A Nivunhella had also joined the inspection tour.

It is said that the rice mill owners have agreed to submit a report on the stocks of rice issued by the mill as well as wholesale prices to the CAA, which are then to be publicized.

The owners of the rice mills have also stated that they will take steps to convert their stocks of paddy into rice and supply it to the market at the controlled prices set by the government.
