Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage assumed duties as the 24th Army Commander of Sri Lanka.

It was at the Army Headquarters.

He joined the Sri Lanka Army as a Cadet Officer on 27 October 1986 and served as the Commanding Officer of the 8th Gajaba Regiment of the 57th and 56th Divisions during the humanitarian operation.
