Parliament committee urges removal of sand barrier to mitigate flooding near Nilwala River

The Committee on Ways and Means of the Parliament has directed relevant authorities to promptly remove the partially dismantled old sand barrier to alleviate flooding issues around the Nilwala River.

Officials from the Irrigation Department, Central Environment Authority, Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau, Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation, Southern Province Water Supply Board, and the Matara District Secretary attended the committee meeting to discuss the situation.

The committee emphasized the importance of complete removal of the sand barrier by April to address flooding concerns effectively.
