Currently, the Rajanganaya Reservoir has opened ten spill gates, releasing a water capacity of 10,000 cubic feet per second into the Kala Oya. Additionally, two spill gates have been opened at the Angamuwa Reservoir, releasing 3,650 cubic feet per second into the same river.
The Disaster Management Center has reported that 27,580 people from 59,629 families across 17 districts have been affected by the adverse weather conditions. The Ampara district has been the hardest hit, with 123,876 people from 34,885 families impacted.
Meanwhile, a bridge in the Oluvil-Kaliodei area on the Akkaraipattu-Kalmunai road has collapsed due to the severe weather, disrupting traffic. Access to Batticaloa city has also been hindered as the Batticaloa-Kalladi bridge has been submerged by approximately three feet of water, with the city itself experiencing flooding.
