Writer Kasun Mahendra Heenatigala's arrest: Three officers transferred

Popular writer Kasun Mahendra Heenatigala was arrested by the Athurugiriya Police on the 21st of December after he was unable to verify his identity due to not having his identity card while visiting a shop near his home.

Police Media Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police Buddhika Manatunga, confirmed that three officers, including a Sub-Inspector, were temporarily transferred in connection with an investigation into the incident. The OIC of the Anti-Corruption Division of the Athurugiriya Police Station and two police constables have been transferred to the Mirihana Headquarters Police.

The investigation follows a complaint filed by Heenatigala to the Police Headquarters. In a social media post, Heenatigala alleged that he was assaulted by the officers during the incident.
