A tapeworm measuring approximately 70 cm long has been discovered in the digestive tract of a 10-year-old boy from the Kurunegala area, during an examination conducted by the Colombo Medical Research Institute.

The Medical Research Institute stated that while tapeworms around 40 cm in length have been reported previously, this is believed to be the longest tapeworm found in a human body in Sri Lanka to date.
