The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has reopened the investigation into the murder of newspaper editor and journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge.
According to the Ministry of Public Security, this new investigation is being conducted in addition to the existing inquiries into the case.
Lasantha Wickrematunge, the former editor of the Sunday Leader newspaper, was assassinated on January 9, 2009, while he was driving to his office in Ratmalana.
In a related development, the CID has also reportedly sent the investigation file on the abduction and disappearance of another journalist, Keith Noyahr, to the Attorney General.
