Diplomatic discussions are underway to facilitate the return of the Sri Lankan fishermen and their vessel, which were apprehended in Maldivian waters on suspicion of drug trafficking.
Minister of Public Security, Ananda Wijepala, stated that these efforts are being handled through the intervention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Minister added that a corresponding official letter has already been dispatched to the Maldivian Government.
It has been reported that approximately 300 kilogrammes of heroin were discovered aboard the arrested fishing vessel.
Investigations have been launched to identify the owner of this large drug consignment.
Furthermore, several officials from Sri Lanka are scheduled to depart for the Maldives soon to assist with the ongoing probe.
