Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe departed from Katunayake Airport this morning (21) for Chennai, India, confirmed the Airport Duty Officer.

He travelled to attend the wedding ceremony of Parliamentarian Jeevan Thondaman.

The former President was accompanied by his spouse, Prof. Maithree Wickremesinghe.

They departed this morning (21) at 8:40 AM on SriLankan Airlines flight UL-121 bound for Chennai, India.

The couple is scheduled to attend the wedding on November 23 and return to Sri Lanka on November 25.

Jeevan Thondaman (31), Parliamentarian for the Nuwara Eliya district, is reportedly getting married to Sithai Sri Nachchiyar, a doctor from Chennai, India.

She is the granddaughter of Arumugam Pillai, a well-known entrepreneur, politician, and philanthropist in India.

The wedding ceremony is scheduled to take place throughout the day on the 23rd.

Jeevan Thondaman, the only son of the late former Minister and leader of the Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC), Arumugam Thondaman, currently serves as the party’s General Secretary and Parliamentarian for the Nuwara Eliya district.

A CWC spokesperson stated that many politicians from both Sri Lanka and India received invitations to the wedding.

It is also reported that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the wedding ceremony.

After the ceremony in India, Jeevan Thondaman has also arranged wedding receptions in Colombo and at the CWC headquarters in Kotagala for friends and party members.
