Temporary restoration work on the breached sections of the Mavil Aru dam started today (24) to ensure water remains available for the upcoming Maha cultivation season, according to the Irrigation Department.
The Trincomalee Irrigation Director, Engineer K. Subramaniam, stated that the public should not harbour unnecessary fears regarding water supply for the Maha season as further repairs are currently underway.
He further noted that engineers are actively working on a restoration mission along the Mahaweli flood protection bund in Serunuwara, where thirty-two separate locations suffered damage.
These teams are moving along the dam to temporarily stabilise each breached point.
