A special traffic arrangement operates today (7), to facilitate the Duruthu Maha Perahera of the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya, according to Police statements.
The procession begins at the Kelaniya Temple and proceeds through the Kelani Siri roundabout, Peliyagoda Road, Pilapitiya Kanatta, and Gonagampala Road.
It will then enter Waragoda Road, pass the Nungamugoda junction, Gal Borella, and Valankade junction, eventually entering Biyagama Road via Vihara Mawatha to return to the temple through the Nawaloka Gate.
Commuters are advised to use alternative routes between 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM while the procession is underway. The Police Media Division recommends the following diversions:
- From Battaramulla to Biyagama: Turn right at the Kelanimulla lights and travel via Ambatale Road through Kaduwela.
- From Battaramulla to Peliyagoda: Turn left at the Kelanimulla lights and proceed via the Totalanga Road.
- From Biyagama to Peliyagoda: Turn right at Pattivila junction and travel through Sapugaskanda and Kiribathgoda.
- From Biyagama to Battaramulla: Turn left at Bandarawatta junction and use the Kaduwela-Ambatale Road.
- From Peliyagoda to Biyagama: Travel via Kiribathgoda and Sapugaskanda.
- From Peliyagoda to Battaramulla: Use the Totalanga Road and pass through the Kelanimulla lights.
- From Waragoda to Biyagama: Use the Old Kandy Road, Tire Junction, Kiribathgoda, and Sapugaskanda.
All vehicles entering Biyagama from the Old Kandy Road should proceed via Pattivila Road.
