A suspect was arrested by Buttala Police during an operation in the Yala National Park, where a firearm and cannabis valued at over 5 million rupees were seized.


Officers from the Buttala Police Station conducted a special raid in the Wandama area of the Yala National Park. During the operation, they discovered a well-maintained cannabis plantation containing approximately 13,500 plants.


Police state the value of the crop exceeds 5 million rupees. In addition to the narcotics, officers found a locally manufactured firearm in the suspect's possession.


The suspect, a resident of the Kuda Oya area, is to be produced before the Wellawaya Magistrate’s Court. All confiscated cannabis plants were destroyed by fire, and Buttala Police are continuing further investigations into the incident.
