The Colombo Magistrate's Court ordered the release of Nishantha Wickremasinghe, the former Chairman of SriLankan Airlines, on bail after his arrest on corruption charges.
The Bribery Commission produced the suspect before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama earlier today (24).
Investigations by the Bribery Commission led to the arrest based on allegations that Wickremasinghe caused a financial loss to the state between 2012 and 2015.
Authorities claim he unlawfully provided fuel allowances totaling Rs. 2,853,935 to the then-subject minister, Priyankara Jayaratne, creating an illegal advantage for the official.
