Persistent heavy rainfall in the Hatton-Dickoya area has caused severe flooding in the low-lying areas of the Fordyce Estate in Dickoya today (21).

Approximately 50 estate houses have been completely submerged, displacing more than 100 residents who have since been moved to safer locations.

The flooding was triggered by the overflow of the Dickoya stream, which runs through the estate.

According to Hatton Police, the rising waters have also completely disrupted vehicular movement along the Hatton–Fordyce–Dayagama road.
