The Department of Meteorology forecasted an increase in rainfall in the south-western parts of the island as the south-west monsoon gradually establishes itself across the country.

Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, alongside Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts, will experience showers or thundershowers at times today (26).

Heavy falls of about 100 mm can occur at some places in these areas.

A few places in Uva province, as well as Ampara and Batticaloa districts, may experience showers or thundershowers after 1:00 pm.

Fairly strong winds of about 30 to 40 km/h will blow at times over the western slopes of the central hills, Northern, North-Central, North-Western, and Southern provinces, and Trincomalee district.

The department requests the public to take necessary precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
