The Embassy of France in Sri Lanka and the Maldives will celebrate the globally renowned Fête de la Musique (International Music Day) with two free musical evenings in Colombo and Kandy, bringing together French and Sri Lankan artists in a vibrant celebration of music and cultural exchange.
The concerts will be held on 21 June at 5 p.m. at Port View Restaurant, Colombo, and on 23 June at 7 p.m. at Kandy Club, Kandy. Admission is free and no prior registration is required.
Headlining the event is French singer-songwriter Kelly ou moi, whose blues-inspired melodies and evocative lyrics create an intimate and engaging musical experience. Audiences will also enjoy performances by Sri Lankan artist DJ Chandana and popular local band DotDotay, offering a unique fusion of French and Sri Lankan musical talent.
The Fête de la Musique was first launched in France in 1982 by the French Ministry of Culture as a free, public event encouraging both amateur and professional musicians to share their music with the wider community. Since then, it has grown into a worldwide celebration observed in more than 120 countries and over 1,000 cities, promoting cultural accessibility and celebrating music in all its forms.
The return of the festival to Sri Lanka highlights music's enduring role as a universal language and a powerful platform for intercultural dialogue.
