Cabinet approval was granted for the programme to rebuild holy places affected by the "Ditwah" disaster situation.


It is reported that 758 Buddhist temples, 272 Hindu religious places, 199 Muslim religious places, and 99 Christian religious places faced various disasters due to the "Ditwah" disaster situation.


Steps are currently taken to carry out renovation work at 178 of those holy places using funds of 800 million rupees deployed by the Buddha Sasana Fund, the Central Cultural Fund, and the Anagarika Dharmapala Foundation, including 200 million rupees allocated as per the Cabinet decision dated 2026-04-27.


The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs to renovate another 90 religious places out of the remaining holy places using provisions of 129.69 million rupees, subject to the provisions of circular No. 01/2026 issued by the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs.
