Hollywood actor Mike Myers confirmed a fourth instalment of the Austin Powers spy comedy franchise enters development. The comedian, who portrays both the international man of mystery and his nemesis Dr Evil, revealed the news to a fan during an appearance on Trevor Noah’s World Cup Watch Party. While Myers offered no further elaboration on a timeline, he previously expressed a keen interest in centering a future sequel around the backstory of Dr Evil.
The announcement follows a newly released commercial featuring Myers alongside original co-stars Seth Green, Mindy Sterling, and Rob Lowe, which sparked renewed fan enthusiasm. Franchise director Jay Roach previously indicated that a sequel depended entirely on Myers finding the right creative inspiration after a long hiatus. The original trilogy from New Line Cinema grossed well over 500 million dollars worldwide and remains a significant cultural touchstone since the last film debuted in 2002.
