Exterminators PLC and Sentario UK Limited have unveiled MACCP X Mosquito Intelligence Platform, an artificial intelligence-powered system designed to strengthen disease surveillance, environmental intelligence, risk mapping and predictive mosquito management across Sri Lanka.
Developed by Denham Marlon Ferreira, Founder and Managing Director of Exterminators PLC and Sentario UK Limited, the platform builds on the MACCP 2000 (Mosquito Analysis Critical Control Points) framework introduced in 2018. MACCP X integrates artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, environmental monitoring, geographic intelligence and disease surveillance to identify mosquito and disease risks at an earlier stage.
Launched as part of an AI for Social Good initiative, the platform covers all provinces and districts of Sri Lanka and represents the first phase of an AI-enabled mosquito early warning ecosystem. It is designed to support public health authorities, organisations, communities and mosquito management professionals with data-driven insights and predictive intelligence for more effective decision-making.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mosquito-borne diseases affect more than 700 million people annually and are responsible for over 700,000 deaths worldwide, underscoring the need for proactive surveillance and prevention.
“Prevention delivers greater value than reaction,” said Denham Marlon Ferreira. “MACCP X combines decades of field expertise with artificial intelligence to identify risks earlier, strengthen decision-making and support the protection of people, communities and the environment.”
The platform has been developed in accordance with responsible AI principles, incorporating transparency, accountability, human oversight, privacy protection and environmental responsibility. The company said MACCP X is intended to enhance human expertise rather than replace professional judgement.
Ferreira developed the platform by drawing on more than three decades of practical experience in pest and mosquito management. He recently completed the Oxford Artificial Intelligence Programme at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, further strengthening the technological foundation behind the initiative.
With the launch of MACCP X, Exterminators and Sentario UK aim to leverage artificial intelligence to deliver smarter, more predictive mosquito management solutions while supporting Sri Lanka’s public health and environmental resilience.
