The Poson Full Moon Poya Day, which commemorates the Dhamma mission of Arahant Mahinda Thera in establishing the Buddha Sasana in Sri Lanka, stands as a sacred day reminding the nation of spiritual awakening, wisdom, and social harmony.
Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya stated this in a message issued for the Poson Full Moon Poya Day.
The Prime Minister noted that the occasion signifies more than a religious observance in Sri Lankan history, serving as a symbol of transformation for the culture, moral way of life, and thinking of an entire nation.
The Buddhist philosophy introduced to the country through the arrival of Arahant Mahinda Thero shaped the national identity for centuries.
The message emphasised that genuine development begins within the human mind.
By upholding a society built on the noble values of compassion, empathy, equality, discipline, and responsibility, the nation can achieve the shared vision of building a peaceful, fair, and prosperous Sri Lanka.
As the country embarks on a journey with renewed hope, economic progress alone remains insufficient to ensure success.
A society grounded in moral values is vital, with the true essence of Poson Poya day—which promotes morality, non-violence, and compassion—serving as a guiding light toward the government's vision of a disciplined and prosperous society.
The Prime Minister extended wishes for peace, wisdom, and prosperity to all Buddhist devotees on this sacred occasion.
