A revenue inspector of the Galle Municipal Council and a field worker, who were arrested over allegations of accepting a bribe of Rs. 5,000, have been remanded until July 14, by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama.

The order was issued when the relevant case was taken up in court.

Investigating officers informed the court that the suspects had allegedly requested a bribe of Rs. 5,000 in exchange of expediting the release of documents related to taxes payable to the Municipal Council for displaying an advertisement board belonging to a private establishment.

The suspect had previously been remanded until yesterday after being produced before the Galle Magistrate’s Court.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations on Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) also informed the court that the second suspect had agreed to give a voluntary statement before the Galle Magistrate.

Although lawyers representing the suspects requested bail, the Magistrate rejected.
