The Cabinet granted approval to a proposal from the Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply to implement the World Habitat Day celebration programme.

The primary objective involves drawing attention to housing and settlement development issues, exploring alternative solutions, and discussing new trends.

This effort aims to build a national-level dialogue to create awareness among all stakeholders and ensure that the benefits of these initiatives reach the public promptly.

This year's World Habitat Day falls on October 5, with the United Nations declaring 'Adequate Housing for All' as the theme.

The United Nations designates the first Monday of October every year as World Habitat Day.

As the Sri Lankan agency for the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Water Supply plans to conduct the celebration in collaboration with other ministries and related bodies.
