As the first phase, over 100 rural bridges will be developed at a cost of 1,050 million rupees, and the construction of 38 of those bridges will begin tomorrow (14) islandwide.
The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government focused special attention on this matter immediately after the current government came into power, and obtained a report on rural bridges that require development from all local government authorities across the country.
Accordingly, 881 bridges were selected to implement this as a four-year project, and allocations were set aside for this purpose through the 2026 Budget.
Furthermore, several other projects under the 'Punarudaye Purawara' national programme implemented by the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government will commence in the future, aiming to strengthen local government authorities and uplift public life.
