Police suspect that the attack on the house arose from a drug dispute.
One suspect fled amidst the shooting during the incident, the Boralasgamuwa Police stated.
Boralasgamuwa Police received information that a group of individuals carrying sharp weapons arrived on two motorcycles at a house on O. P. Perera Mawatha in Boralasgamuwa at around 1.30 a.m. today(19), damaged the property, and attacked the occupants who were asleep before fleeing.
Based on information that the suspects were fleeing towards Piliyandala, police officers placed teams on the route.
The Police were able to halt a motorcycle riding towards them, which attempted to turn back, and the rider collided with a police officer, causing injury, while the pillion rider attempted to attack the police officers with a sharp weapon.
A police officer then fired a shot at the individual with his official firearm, causing him to fall from the motorcycle, while the rider fled, according to reports.
The suspect, a resident of the Veediyagoda area in Bandaragama, along with the injured police officer and a 24-year-old woman who sustained injuries from the weapon attack during the raid on the house, were admitted to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Boralasgamuwa and Piliyandala Police units jointly conduct further investigations.
