The repeated extension of the suspension of business activities of Perpetual Treasuries Limited (PTL) will soon come to an end, and a final decision will be made in this regard, Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe said.

The CBSL, acting under the Regulations made in terms of the Registered Stock and Securities Ordinance and the Local Treasury Bills Ordinance, extended the suspension of PTL from carrying on business and activities as a Primary Dealer for a further six months from 4.30 p.m. on 5 July 2026, to continue investigations being conducted by the Central Bank.

Dr. Weerasinghe said the alleged bond scam involving PTL was the biggest financial fraud to have taken place in Sri Lanka in recent years.

“The Central Bank has taken several measures in this regard, including the seizure of assets worth over Rs. 12 billion belonging to Perpetual Treasuries Limited,” he said.

He added that legal proceedings were currently underway and were expected to conclude soon. (Shirajiv S.)
