The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Sri Lanka will host the Korean Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo Championship and the K-Pop World Festival as part of Korea Week 2026 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo on Sunday, August 23.

With strong interest and support from Sri Lankan K-culture fans, the double-feature event will bring together Taekwondo finalists, K-pop singers and dancers for live performances.

The Korean Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo Championship is one of the major events organised annually by the Korean Embassy in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Taekwondo Federation as part of Korea Week.

The final round of the championship, hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, will commence at 2 p.m. Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage will attend the event and deliver congratulatory remarks.

The preliminary rounds will be held at the Watupitiwala Indoor Complex from August 9 to 11 and are expected to attract more than 2,000 competitors, highlighting the growing popularity of Taekwondo in Sri Lanka.

As part of efforts to strengthen cultural cooperation and deepen understanding of Korean music and dance, the Embassy will also host the Sri Lankan final round of the K-Pop World Festival, commencing at 5.30 p.m.

Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Prof. Hiniduma Sunil Senevi will attend the event and deliver congratulatory remarks.

The K-Pop World Festival will celebrate Korea’s globally acclaimed music industry while showcasing the choreography and performances of K-pop fans in Sri Lanka.

More than 100 talented applicants took part in the preliminary round, from which 14 Sri Lankan finalists were selected through an evaluation process. The finalists will take to the stage to perform their favourite K-pop songs and choreography.

The performances are expected to attract young audiences passionate about Korean music and dance. The finalists will be evaluated by a panel of judges with experience in Sri Lanka’s music and dance industries.
