Severe traffic disruptions will hit the Boralesgamuwa Police Division this week due to the annual Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya Esala Procession.

The Police Media Division released the official advisory detailing extensive road closures and alternative routes between 13 August and 16 August 2026.

Motorists face significant delays on the 119 Maharagama-Dehiwala bus route and Route 117. During the initial procession, drivers heading from Maharagama or Piliyandala towards Dehiwala must divert at Papiliyana Junction towards Bellanthara via the Spar Roundabout, continuing through Nedimala.

 Vehicles travelling from Werahera Junction can use Gangaramaya Road towards Golumadama Junction to reach Galle Road.

Subsequent processions force traffic from Dehiwala to Maharagama to turn left at Bellanthara Junction onto Route 117, proceeding to Papiliyana Junction.

Heavy vehicles face diversions from Boralesgamuwa Junction either towards Pepiliyana Junction or via Katubedda Road to access Galle Road.

Light vehicles can navigate through Malani Bulathsinhala Road and Kahawita Mawatha.

The final major procession forces complete closures at major intersections, requiring all Dehiwala-bound traffic from Maharagama and Piliyandala to divert through Kohuwala Junction and the Kohuwala-Kalubowila Road.

• 13 August 2026 (0700 hrs to 1000 hrs): The Pawada Procession restricts the 119 Maharagama-Dehiwala bus route between Boralesgamuwa Junction and Bellanthara Junction.


• 14 August 2026 (2000 hrs) to 15 August 2026 (0200 hrs): The Ranseevali Procession closes the 119 bus route between Boralesgamuwa Junction and Bellanthara Junction, with the procession moving along Somaratne Mawatha and Vihara Mawatha.


• 15 August 2026 (2000 hrs) to 16 August 2026 (0400 hrs): The Randoli Maha Procession closes Boralesgamuwa Junction, Bellanthara Junction, Nedimala Junction, and Route 117 from Attidiya Police Training College Junction to Pepiliyana Junction.
