The 50th annual competition to select the world's ugliest dog was held in California, US.

Jeanie Lou, a 6-year-old Pug who entered this competition for the fourth time, succeeded in winning first place in this year's competition.

Jeanie, who won beating eight dogs, received a prize money of 5,000 dollars and a trophy, and it is also mentioned that Jeanie's image is scheduled to be printed on Mug Root Beer cans.

Meanwhile, South Korea's Boknal festival, where dog meat is traditionally eaten in the summer season, was held for the final time this year.

That is due to the dog meat ban coming into effect in that country starting next year's February.

In January 2024, the South Korean parliament passed laws banning breeding dogs for meat, killing, and selling for meat, and after a 3-year grace period, this ban will come into full effect from February 2027.

It is mentioned that imposing prison sentences and fines on those violating these laws will also take place.

Foreign media report that according to a survey conducted recently, more than 90% stated they have no intention of eating dog meat in future, and more than 80% approved this ban.
