A train-car collision in Hunuporanuwa railway crossing in Kandana left one person killed and two others injured this morning (13). The injured were admitted to Ragama Hospital.
The ill-fated car had first collided with Mt. Lavinia bound train from Puttalam and then rammed into a nearby three-wheeler.
The car was heading towards Colombo and a 60-year-old person, who was in the car had died instantaneously after the accident.
The driver of the car and the three-wheel driver sustained injuries and police said their condition is not critical.
Meanwhile, Railway Security Division said so far this year, 44 accidents had occurred on railway crossings killing 375 persons.
Meanwhile, last afternoon, a private coach transporting a group of foreigners collided head-on with a three-wheeler in Lindula on the Hatton-Nuwara Eliya road. The three-wheel driver and another occupant of the three-wheeler were killed in the mishap.
Police have arrested the bus driver for reckless driving.
